About

Hi, I’m Noah.

An architect and landscape architect working in the Finger Lakes region of New York.

I’ve practiced in Tompkins County for 14 years, designing high-performance custom homes and the landscapes around them. I work with both licenses, as a registered architect and a registered landscape architect, because I don’t think a house and its land can be designed apart.

A lot of my work happens where design meets the rules. I served on the Ithaca Planning Board and was the lead consultant on the Ithaca Energy Code Supplement. I’ve learned that most code and zoning requirements make sense once someone explains the reasoning behind them. The free tools on this site are my attempt to do that explaining at scale.

Outside of client work I write about architecture, design and art, and I make artwork of my own. You’ll find both here as they come together.

My practice

My design work for clients happens through STREAM Collaborative, an architecture and landscape architecture studio in Trumansburg, New York.

A note on the tools

The tools are design aids, not a substitute for a licensed professional or your local code official. They reference the current New York State codes, and I keep them as accurate as I can. If you find a mistake, I’d really like to hear about it.
